Tata Trusts board to meet on August 13; Chandrasekaran’s tenure renewal on agenda

The Tata Trusts board is set to convene on August 13, a date that precedes the Tata Sons annual general meeting (AGM) on August 18. The primary agenda at this meeting will likely revolve around the renewal of N Chandrasekaran's tenure as chairman. The Trusts have sought a one-time waiver from the Maharashtra Charity Commissioner to enable the Sir Ratan Tata Trust (SRTT) trustees to hold a meeting, deliberate on their accounts, and consider other matters.

This request is significant as the SRTT is currently barred from holding meetings, creating ambiguity regarding its planned grants and Tata Sons dividend. The SRTT's ability to exercise voting rights at the Tata Sons AGM may also be impacted unless the Maharashtra Charity Commissioner grants approval. The issue surrounding the Trusts' decision-making has further been complicated by ongoing disputes among Tata Trusts trustees Venu Srinivasan, Vijay Singh, former trustee Mehli Mistry, and chairman Chandrasekaran.

These disagreements encompass a range of concerns, including trustee appointments, board-level decisions, remuneration, and governance practices. The Tata Trusts have not responded to inquiries regarding this matter.
