Tamil Nadu mulls raising 7.5% quota for NEET-qualified govt. school students in medical admissions: Health Minister

Tamil Nadu is considering raising the 7.5% quota for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET)-qualified students from government schools in medical admissions, according to Health Minister K.G. Arunraj. A commission led by retired judge Justice P. Kalaiyarasan will evaluate the reservation and explore whether it should be expanded or applied to allied health courses beyond MBBS and BDS.

The minister stated that the existing quota would be reviewed, and a new commission has been constituted for the assessment. The Kalaiyarasan Commission will examine the impact of the reservation on students' admissions and determine the duration for which the government should continue implementing it. Additionally, the commission will investigate the possibility of extending the 7.5% reservation to other allied health courses and whether the current quota should be increased.
