‘Taking too long’: Man arrested after allegedly brandishing meat cleaver at delivery rider at Terengganu petrol station

KUALA TERENGGANU, Aug 10 — A 55-year-old man was arrested after allegedly brandishing a meat cleaver at a p-hailing worker at a petrol station on Jalan Pasir Panjang in Kuala Terengganu yesterday afternoon, according to police. Police chief ACP Azli Mohd Noor stated that the suspect was apprehended at around 10pm last night at his residence in Kampung Nibung.

The investigation revealed that the incident arose from the suspect's frustration, as he accused the victim of taking too long to refuel his motorcycle. At approximately 4:30pm, while the 26-year-old victim was fueling his motorcycle, the suspect arrived on a Honda Wave motorcycle and began shouting and scolding the victim for the perceived delay.

Despite the victim's attempts to ignore the suspect, the suspect took a meat cleaver from his motorcycle and threatened the victim. The victim fled the scene out of fear for his safety before reporting the incident to the police. Azli revealed that a urine test confirmed that the suspect had tested positive for methamphetamine and that he had a criminal history of 15 previous convictions for drug-related offenses, theft, and assault with a dangerous weapon.

The suspect has been remanded for four days, pending further investigation under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which pertains to criminal intimidation. A 23-second viral video on social media depicts the suspect brandishing a knife at the p-hailing worker while the victim was refueling at the petrol station.
