Sylvia Lim: We affirm each other as loyal citizens, whatever our political affiliations may be

Singaporeans expressed their unity and loyalty to the nation during this year's National Day celebrations, according to Workers' Party chair Sylvia Lim. In a series of Instagram posts, Lim distributed flags to both young and old citizens, who warmly greeted her and waved the flags in response. Lim emphasized that despite their political affiliations, Singaporeans should affirm each other as loyal citizens.

She also shared a photo of the nine WP MPs and two NCMPs, all dressed in red, ready for the parade, and a picture with WP Secretary-General Pritam Singh, who she said was seated beside her during the parade. Lim's message resonated with another post by Singh, who reminded Singaporeans of their roots based on the Sejarah Melayu, highlighting the importance of protecting the people over preserving symbols of power.

Singh stressed that a strong nation is built on the foundation of shared sacrifice for the common good, and that safety nets are crucial to ensure that no one is left behind during challenging times. He urged Singaporeans to cherish and support those in need, such as caregivers, the elderly poor, and those with disabilities. Singh also called for mutual respect and understanding among Singaporeans, regardless of their backgrounds or political perspectives, emphasizing that the WP will continue to act as a constructive opposition party, offering ideas, questioning policies, and advocating for policies that benefit all Singaporeans.
