Suvarnabhumi says food prices are controlled, doughnut + Coke set just 50 baht

Suvarnabhumi Airport has defended the prices of food and beverages at its international passenger terminal, asserting that restaurants and beverage outlets must keep their costs within 20% of normal market rates. The clarification came following a post on Khaosod English on August 9, which questioned whether food at the airport was excessively pricey.

Passengers complained that certain items inside the terminal were significantly more expensive than similar products outside the airport, with some prices reportedly multiple times higher than usual.

In response to the article, Airports of Thailand (AOT) explained that Suvarnabhumi Airport offers a diverse selection of restaurants and beverage outlets, with prices varying based on the establishment type and menu. The airport pointed out that the varying prices enable passengers and other users to make choices based on their preferences and budgets.

To address concerns about affordable options, King Power Suvarnabhumi Co., Ltd. (KPS), the concession holder for managing commercial activities inside the passenger terminal, introduced a "Suvarnabhumi Food Guide" program for 2026-27. This initiative includes budget food sets starting at 50 baht. Examples of such sets include a Krispy Kreme doughnut paired with a soft drink, as well as a Bonchon chicken set featuring sundubu soup, Japanese rice, and a 600-milliliter bottle of Purra mineral water for 280 baht.

Additionally, the Magic Food Point, a food court on the terminal's first floor, serves as another budget option with prices starting at 30 baht. The food court is open 24 hours a day and provides a variety of food and beverage choices.

AOT clarified that restaurants and beverage outlets operating under KPS at Suvarnabhumi Airport are required to adhere to contractual conditions maintaining prices no more than 20% above market rates. The benchmark is determined by regular selling prices at department stores and leading hotels in Bangkok, rather than the prices at establishments outside the airport.

The airport stated that it receives pricing information from KPS and verifies the submitted prices monthly to ensure compliance with the agreed-upon conditions.

The airport acknowledged the passengers' concerns and assured that their comments and suggestions would be considered as part of ongoing efforts to enhance services. AOT also committed to coordinating with relevant operators to encourage them to consider price, product quality, and value for money while preserving international service standards at the airport.
