Suspected cultists allegedly beat man to death over missing phone in Lagos

A young man named Azeez allegedly died after being beaten by suspected cultists over a missing mobile phone in Lagos, Nigeria. According to a police source, the incident took place on Monday, August 3, following an argument over the missing phone during a party in the Oko-Oba area of Agege. The source claimed that the dispute escalated into a physical attack on Azeez, who later succumbed to his injuries.

An anti-cultism advocacy group, Naija Confra, offered a different account, stating that the events began during a birthday celebration on Sunday night, August 2. They claimed that a fight erupted at the gathering, and a man named Abela handed a phone to Azeez, claiming it was for safekeeping. The phone's owner later discovered it missing and started searching for it.

When Azeez mentioned Abela's involvement, Naija Confra alleged that Abela denied the act, leading to further confrontation. The advocacy group claimed Azeez confronted Abela, who was later taken away by suspected Neo-Black Movement members and allegedly assaulted. The police source did not provide details on the second assault or those responsible.

Police spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi could not be reached for comment, and the police investigation into Azeez's death is ongoing.
