Sukma 2026: Selangor sedia tindakan susulan jika IPU tak sihat

Selangor authorities are preparing follow-up actions should air pollution levels exceed safe thresholds during the upcoming Sukma 2026 sports festival, should the Air Pollution Index (IPU) record unhealthy readings. According to Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari, recent monitoring by the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) and Selangor Health Department (JPNS) indicates that the Johan Setia area in Klang has shown a deteriorating air quality trend, possibly due to local factors and a possible local fire incident in recent days.

The state government will monitor the IPU closely and take necessary steps as advised by MetMalaysia and the Selangor Health Department if the index reaches unhealthy levels. Additionally, the Ministry of Health (KKM) will provide guidance if the IPU exceeds 100. Amirudin Shari assured that his administration will closely monitor official reports from relevant agencies to ensure the safety and health of athletes and the public throughout the event.

He emphasized that preventive measures and schedule adjustments will only be officially decided if the weather conditions worsen to a concerning level. So far, media reported that eight areas in Sarawak and one in Selangor recorded unhealthy IPU levels by 6 PM yesterday, according to the Air Pollution Index Management System (APIMS). On the peninsula, Johan Setia was the only area with an unhealthy IPU reading of 153.
