Stand up and fight for your dignity, Mairura tells MCAs

Former Ruto ally Bouse Mairura, now a critic within the Kisii County Assembly, has lambasted some ward representatives for abandoning their constitutional oversight role and behaving like "beggars" and errand boys to the county administration. Mairura, the UDA MCA for Masimba Ward, made his scathing remarks on Sunday as he ramped up his bid for the Nyaribari Masaba parliamentary seat, aiming to replace incumbent MP Dr Daniel Manduku.

He accused certain Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) of putting Governor Simba Arati's interests above those of the residents who elected them. Mairura called for Kisii residents to vote in 2027 for MCAs who would independently represent their wards, question the county executive, and demand accountability. He urged ward representatives to be the champions of their constituents, demanding answers about issues like healthcare shortages and poor road conditions.

Mairura criticized the prevailing situation, stating that residents should not have to suffer because their elected officials hesitate to challenge the executive. He warned that an MCA's role is not to be a sycophant or errand boy, but to serve as an independent representative of the people. Mairura urged voters to prioritize accountability in the upcoming elections, rejecting leaders who prioritize political loyalty over the needs of their constituents.
