Sonic the Hedgehog is Joining Fortnite, and Yes You'll Be Able to Dash Up Walls in the Green Hill Zone

Sonic the Hedgehog is set to join Fortnite's upcoming battle royale season, named Override. The season, which includes collaborations with various classic video game franchises, features gameplay footage showcasing an area inspired by Sonic's Green Hill Zone. The clip, shared by the Sonic the Hedgehog social media account, shows Peely the banana dashing through the zone in a Sonic-style manner.

This new Fortnite zone appears to be inspired by the Imagined Order, the game's original antagonists led by Geno, who is now a key figure in the storyline. The teaser suggests that the IO are manipulating reality and introducing video game characters into Fortnite's universe, though the exact reasons remain unclear. Fortnite is currently concluding its Runners season, which centered on collecting Pokémon-like Sprites.

Epic Games has confirmed that the Sprite mechanic will continue, with new generations of Sprites to be added in the future. Each player will save their collected Sprites in a Sprite Garden. The next Fortnite season is anticipated to launch on August 19, potentially introducing more major video game crossovers, including Kingdom Hearts at D23 Expo this weekend.
