Singaporean man, 25, gets 1 year 4 months jail for taking 179 upskirt voyeur videos over 3 years, and molesting woman at MRT station

Singaporean man Lim Yi Fei, 25, has been sentenced to nine months and 31 weeks in jail for a series of upskirt voyeur offences and a separate theft incident that occurred between 2016 and 2025. Police discovered 179 upskirt videos on his mobile phone, recorded over three years at various public locations across Singapore. Lim targeted women he did not know while traveling between their homes and workplaces, recording the footage from behind on escalators, public walkways, streets, and shopping centers.

The discovery of the videos during an investigation into a separate molestation case led to his arrest in September 2019. During the trial, Lim pleaded guilty to five charges, including intruding upon a woman's privacy with intent to insult her modesty. The court considered 11 other charges during sentencing. The sheer volume of recordings and his later offenses were significant factors in the case.

A week before his arrest in 2019, Lim molested a woman at Serangoon MRT station, following her as she approached an escalator and groping her buttocks before quickly leaving. In 2024, he recorded another upskirt video of a woman at Buangkok MRT station, with his phone inadvertently touching her buttocks. Two passers-by intervened and detained Lim until police arrived.

In 2025, an incident at Dhoby Ghaut MRT station also occurred, where a bystander confronted Lim and helped hold him until police arrived. Lim's lawyer argued that his actions were not driven by malice but by adjustment disorder and childhood trauma, but the judge did not agree, noting that Lim had molested several victims and continued offending while on bail.
