Scotland, Netherlands boards criticise ICC for ODI World Cup format changes

Cricket Scotland and the Royal Dutch Cricket Association (KNCB) have strongly criticized the International Cricket Council (ICC) for altering the ODI World Cup format. Both boards expressed their disappointment over the structural changes announced in a joint statement, stating that the alterations will require nations like Scotland and the Netherlands to go through three qualifying stages before reaching the main tournament.

The revised format includes a "Super Series" between the bottom three ranked teams, followed by a two-phase competition involving 11 qualified nations and a newly introduced Super 7 stage. The two Scottish boards emphasized that these changes, introduced less than 18 months before the tournament, undermine recent progress in growing the global game and could have a negative impact on emerging nations.

They further expressed concerns over the ICC's handling of communications with associate nations, highlighting the lack of response and consultation since meeting with the ICC multiple times. The statement concluded by stressing the importance of strong governance, transparent decision-making, and effective engagement with Members in maintaining the integrity and credibility of international cricket.
