Sarawak schools told to suspend outdoor activities if API exceeds 100

KUCHING, Aug 10 — Sarawak's education department has instructed all schools to closely monitor Air Pollutant Index (API) readings in their respective areas amid the current transboundary haze affecting the state. If the API exceeds 100, schools are required to suspend all outdoor activities for students, according to the Sarawak Education Department (JPNS).

The department advised educational institutions to stay informed about the haze situation through media reports and follow recommendations from the Ministry of Health. Additionally, JPNS encouraged schools to provide students with face masks, frequent water consumption, and an ample supply of clean drinking water. An API reading between 101 and 200 is classified as unhealthy, while readings above 300 are hazardous.

As of the morning of Aug 10, nine areas in Sarawak were experiencing unhealthy API readings, including Kuching (161), Samarahan (161), Serian (179), Sibu (158), and Mukah (156). API data is updated hourly using readings from 68 air quality monitoring stations across the country.
