Russian court bars only anti-war party from standing in parliamentary elections

A Russian court has barred the only liberal, anti-war party from participating in upcoming parliamentary elections. Yabloko, which opposed Russia's war on Ukraine, was targeted by the pro-Kremlin nationalist party Rodina. Hundreds of supporters gathered outside the Moscow courthouse in solidarity with Yabloko during the court hearing, chanting "Shame!" in response to the ruling.

Rodina accused Yabloko of supporting extremist organizations and copyright infringement, as well as receiving foreign funding. While the party had been approved by the Central Electoral Commission, several key members were already barred from running. The Kremlin-controlled commission is aiming for a low turnout, particularly among those who oppose the ruling party, to achieve their desired outcome.
