A Malaysian citizen was arrested by Indian authorities at Chennai International Airport while attempting to bring in over four kilograms of hydroponic cannabis via the Green Channel. According to a statement from the Press Information Bureau (PIB) in India, the individual arrived from Bangkok on August 7th. He was detained by officers from the Airline Intercept Unit (AIU) for a search based on profiling.

An X-ray scan of the manifest revealed suspicious images. Further investigation uncovered four packets containing hydroponic cannabis with a strong smell and bubbling sound, confirming it as high-grade marijuana weighing 4,033 grams through drug testing. The substance was seized under Section 43(a) of the 1985 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS).

The arrested individual was detained, and further investigation is ongoing. Chennai Customs advises the public, especially the youth, to be cautious of enticing offers for foreign travel and easy money, as syndicates often lure young people by funding their travel, accommodation, and other expenses before using them to transport and hand over prohibited items to India.
