Police bust drug hideout in Delta, arrest 56-year-old

Delta State Police Command's Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) has dismantled a suspected drug cartel and apprehended a 56-year-old man, Lucky Oyiboka, in a recent operation. The command's Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, announced this in a statement to journalists in Warri. The arrest came after receiving credible intelligence, leading the VCRU to conduct an intelligence-led raid on a suspected criminal hideout in Ukwani Local Government Area on August 8, 2026.

During the operation, authorities recovered 21 bags of suspected Indian hemp, commonly known as weed. Preliminary investigations suggest Oyiboka was involved in drug distribution, and authorities are intensifying the probe to uncover the full extent of the illicit drug network. The Command's Chief of Police, Commissioner Yemi Oyeniyi, emphasized the state's dedication to intelligence-led policing and vowed to dismantle criminal networks and curb drug proliferation.
