Only 7% Students from Govt Schools Got Admission in Karachi’s Top 10 Colleges

Admission data for Karachi's top 10 government colleges reveals a stark disparity in the backgrounds of admitted students. While 13,211 students were accepted across the institutions, a staggering 92.8% hailed from private schools, leaving only 7.2% representing government school graduates. For every 100 students admitted, approximately 93 had completed their matriculation at private institutions, while just seven were from government schools.

This imbalance was notably pronounced at several prominent boys' colleges. Adamjee Government Science College admitted 585 out of 613 students from private schools, with only 28 from government schools. Similarly, Government D.J. Sindh Science College saw 1,214 private-school graduates among its 1,258 admissions, with just 44 from government schools. Delhi Government Science College followed a similar pattern, with 773 of its 801 students coming from private schools, and only 28 from government schools.

Even at government girls' colleges, the trend was evident. Government Sir Syed Girls College admitted 241 out of 2,507 students from government schools, while St Lawrence Government Girls College admitted 60 out of 691 students from government schools. PECHS Government College for Women and Khatun-e-Pakistan Government College for Women also showed a similar pattern, with government-school graduates comprising less than 12% of their respective admissions.

The disparity was consistent across other colleges as well, including Government Degree College Malir Cantt and Government Degree Boys and Girls College Stadium Road. The figures underscore a significant gap in educational opportunities, with private school graduates far outnumbering their government school counterparts in admissions to Karachi's most esteemed institutions.
