Omane Boamah, Murtala Mohammed immortalised with cenotaph, qur’anic prayers

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) unveiled a cenotaph in Accra on Thursday to honor Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, the late Minister of Defence and Communications, marking the first anniversary of a helicopter crash that took eight lives. The monument pays tribute to Dr Boamah's dedication to Ghana's security and national development, with an inscription highlighting his commitment to modernizing the GAF, strengthening operational readiness, and improving personnel welfare.

President John Dramani Mahama expressed gratitude for Dr Boamah's service, describing him as a friend, younger brother, loyalist, and close adviser. The President also commended the GAF for honoring its former minister and extended condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of all eight victims. Among the civilian victims were Dr Murtala Ibrahim Mohammed, Minister of Environment, and Alhaji Limuna Muniru, Deputy National Security Coordinator.

A related ceremony held prayers at a mosque in Tamale Central Constituency in honor of Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, the former MP, with Islamic clerics reciting Qur'anic prayers and seeking forgiveness for the deceased.
