NSCDC deploys 10,000 personnel for Osun governorship election

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has sent 10,000 personnel to bolster security measures ahead of the Osun State gubernatorial election, according to a statement from the corps. Commandant-General Prof. Ahmed Audi issued the order, with the deployment planned to begin on Monday. The personnel, drawn from ten state commands, will work alongside specialized tactical units to ensure a secure electoral process.

The NSCDC spokesman, Afolabi Babawale, revealed that each command will contribute approximately 1,000 personnel. These units aim to protect voters, electoral officials, observers, journalists, and residents across the state's 30 local government areas. Specialized squads, including the Commandant-General's Special Intelligence Squad, Special Weapons and Tactics Unit, and K9 Unit, will assist in intelligence gathering, crime prevention, crowd control, and other security operations.

Deputy Commandant-General Ayuba Phillip and designated senior officers will relocate to Osun State to oversee the election security efforts. The NSCDC emphasized that its personnel would remain professional and neutral throughout the election, respecting citizens' rights. They warned against any attempts to disrupt the election, stating that such actions would face legal consequences.

The corps urged all stakeholders to maintain peace and allow the democratic process to unfold. The deployment follows heightened security preparations, with the Nigeria Police Force announcing the deployment of 15,000 personnel to the state in anticipation of the August 15 election.
