Natasha’s teenage daughter builds orphanage home in Kogi community

Nadia Zakaria, the 16-year-old daughter of Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, a Senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District in Nigeria, has constructed and handed over an orphanage facility in Etahi Community, situated within Okene Local Government Area of Kogi State. This significant initiative, initiated when Nadia was merely 15 years old, was funded through generous contributions from her family, friends, and the public.

The orphanage, now under the management of Oyiza-Salem Divine Orphanage Home, was ceremoniously commissioned on Sunday, drawing the attention of community members, religious leaders, children, and other well-wishers.

In her statement, Nadia expressed that her motivation stemmed from her desire to provide a better life for children who had not had the same opportunities she enjoyed. Her heartfelt desire to assist such children became a reality as she managed to raise sufficient funds to not only build the orphanage but also furnish each room within the facility. The Senator's media aide, Mike Idoko, conveyed this information in a statement on Monday.

During the commissioning ceremony, Nadia emphasized that her journey was initially challenging due to her age and lack of prior experience. However, she persevered with the unwavering support of her loved ones and the generosity of strangers. She also extended her gratitude to everyone who contributed to the project, emphasizing the importance of compassion and determination in making a positive impact.

Natasha, the Senator, revealed that she had not made any financial contribution to the project, crediting her daughter for independently mobilizing the necessary resources. She further announced that Nadia was currently planning another intervention aimed at supporting pregnant women in Kogi Central.

Pastor Kisito Zuberu, the founder of Oyiza-Salem Divine Orphanage Home, recounted the dire conditions the children had previously endured and expressed his gratitude towards Nadia for providing them with a comfortable and dignified living environment. He also highlighted the institution's ongoing commitment to the children's education and development, despite the financial challenges faced.
