NANS proposes ₦200 dues for NYSC mobilisation

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has proposed a new system where students may need to pay a ₦200 annual fee to be mobilized for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme. NANS National President, Akinteye Babatunde, revealed this plan in a Facebook post, stating that the association aims to collect dues directly from students rather than relying on student union governments.

Babatunde emphasized that the fee is minimal and serves to give NANS the financial resources needed to operate independently and effectively represent students. He explained that the funds would support various structures within NANS, including zonal and state levels, and help address the financial struggles the organization has faced in receiving capitation from student unions.

Babatunde also highlighted the importance of NANS being financially independent from government officials and potential political influences. The NYSC has its own procedures for mobilization, but any new requirement involving NANS dues would need to be formally established before becoming an official condition.
