Mourinho revisits ex-Chelsea doctor Carneiro row, says gender played no role

Jose Mourinho, Real Madrid's head coach, has revisited his contentious exchange with former Chelsea doctor Eva Carneiro in his new Netflix documentary, MOURINHO. The dispute occurred in August 2015 following Chelsea's 2-2 Premier League draw against Swansea City. Carneiro and physiotherapist Jon Fearn entered the pitch to treat Eden Hazard, who was later substituted, leaving Chelsea with nine players.

Mourinho believed Hazard did not need treatment, leading to a heated confrontation. Carneiro accused Mourinho of gender discrimination, alleging he used an insulting Portuguese phrase. The coach defended his actions, stating gender was irrelevant. Mourinho claimed Hazard was not injured, whereas Carneiro disagreed. The incident led to Carneiro's removal from first-team duties and her departure from Chelsea the following month.

Chelsea later apologized to Carneiro and Mourinho for the incident in 2016. The controversy is one of Mourinho's most notable moments during his second spell at Chelsea, which ended with his dismissal in December 2015.
