Moses Kuria hints at possible Ruto-Gachagua reconciliation ahead of US trip

Moses Kuria has indicated that there may be a potential reconciliation between Rigathi Gachagua and President William Ruto prior to the 2027 General Election. This suggestion emerged during a Sunday night TV interview on August 9, 2026. Kuria pointed to the upcoming September visits to the United States by both leaders as a possible early sign of potential cooperation.

In the interview, Kuria clarified that he cannot rule out the possibility of Ruto and Gachagua working together again. He reiterated a challenge he had made to Gachagua on August 8, asking him to take a Bible oath before the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA) Moderator declaring no political deal with Ruto and no future dealing before August 10, 2027.

Gachagua's impeachment in October 2024 has since turned him into a key figure in the opposition, engaging in talks with leaders including Kalonzo Musyoka and Eugene Wamalwa in an effort to form a united coalition for the 2027 election. The interview gained attention when Kuria mentioned a reported September US visit for Gachagua, coinciding with President Ruto's expected trip to the US in the same month.

While Kuria did not provide any evidence of a planned meeting, his comments have sparked speculation about the possibility of a meeting during their US visits. Kuria defended his prediction, sharing past instances where he accurately forecasted political realignments, such as the collaboration between Raila Odinga and Uhuru Kenyatta in 2018, and Ruto's cooperation with Raila before their joint election.
