Matthew Lillard Called Out by Former Fan Over Far-Fetched ‘Scream’ Theory

Matthew Lillard faced a peculiar encounter with a former admirer at the Midsummer Scream horror convention in Long Beach, California, over the weekend. Lillard was present for the convention's "Scream" 30th anniversary reunion panel, alongside fellow "Scream" stars like Skeet Ulrich, Jamie Kennedy, Joseph Whipp, Lee Waddell, and Ghostface voice performer Roger L. Jackson.

During a fan Q&A session, an unidentified man took the stage to address the 56-year-old actor. The man began by mentioning a previous encounter with Lillard, where he attempted to share a theory connecting the 1996 slasher movie "Scream" and the 1995 romance film "Mad Love," both of which featured Drew Barrymore as characters named Casey.

Lillard reportedly responded with a remark about something the man had been "smoking." The man later expressed his disappointment to Lillard, stating that he no longer considered him a fan. Despite attempts from the crowd to clarify the fan's comments, Lillard dismissed them and moved on to the next question. The incident occurred in the same year Lillard made his return to the "Scream" franchise in "Scream 7," where he reprises his role as one of the original Ghostface killers.
