Malaysia mahu kerjasama pertahanan lebih erat dengan Iran

Malaysia seeks to strengthen defense cooperation with Iran, according to Defense Minister Khaled Nordin. The minister said that discussions were held with Iran's Minister and Deputy Minister of Defense and Logistics, Seyed Majid Ebn-e-Reza, about the possibility of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in defense cooperation. Khaled highlighted that the talks included sensitive issues, such as paying tribute to the victims of conflicts with the United States and Israel in Iran, and the importance of maintaining a ceasefire and resolving the situation through dialogue and diplomacy for regional security and stability.

In the face of this conflict, Iran has demonstrated resilience, including through its own defense capabilities. Malaysia sees potential for more substantive defense cooperation based on a strong friendship between the two nations, Nordin stated on Facebook. Looking ahead, Malaysia hopes that the MoU in defense cooperation can be formalized as a tool to strengthen the defense relationship between the two countries.

Khaled expressed gratitude for Iran's support and services in facilitating the Strait of Hormuz passage during the conflict. He also urged Iran to participate in the upcoming International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition in Langkawi, which Nordin believes will serve as a platform to expand relations and explore broader defense cooperation.
