Malaysia mahu kerjasama pertahanan lebih erat dengan Iran

Malaysia seeks to strengthen defense cooperation with Iran, announced Defense Minister Khaled Nordin. Speaking to Iran's Deputy Minister of Defense and Logistics, Seyed Majid Ebn-e-Reza, Nordin said the memorandum of understanding (MoU) for defense cooperation could be finalized. The discussion covered topics raised in a phone call, including expressing gratitude to Iran for the loss of leaders, security figures, and citizens during conflicts with the United States and Israel.

Malaysia also hopes for ongoing ceasefire and resolution through dialogue and diplomacy to maintain regional security and stability. In the face of this conflict, Iran showcased resilience, including its self-developed defense capabilities. Malaysia sees potential for more substantive defense cooperation based on strong friendship ties between the two nations, as noted in a Facebook post.

Moving forward, Malaysia hopes to finalize the MoU as a formal instrument to bolster defense relations between the countries. Nordin highlighted Malaysia's appreciation for Iran's cooperation and services in facilitating passage through the Strait of Hormuz during the conflict. He also urged Iran's participation in the upcoming International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA) in Langkawi next year, which he believes will serve as a platform to expand relations and explore broader defense cooperation.
