Lugari Progressive Retain Kakamega Chapa Dimba Title as Green Buffaloes Claim Maiden Crown

Lugari Progressive, also known as Archbishop Njenga Girls, have won their fifth consecutive Kakamega County Safaricom Chapa Dimba girls' title by defeating Red Commandos, or Butere Girls, 3-0 on penalties. The match, held on Sunday at the Approved School Grounds in Kakamega, ended in a goalless tie during regulation time, with both teams failing to score.

Red Commandos came closest to breaking the deadlock when one of their shots hit the crossbar late in the game, forcing the match into a penalty shootout. Lugari Progressive's goalkeeper, Shamsi Pachanga, was instrumental in their victory, emerging as a hero after saving two penalties while another attempt from Red Commandos went wide.

Head coach Fred Serenge acknowledged the challenge, saying, "Retaining the county title for the fifth time in a row is not easy. Butere Girls were really tough, and I will personally admit they gave us a run for our money." In the boys' final, Green Buffaloes of Khwisero claimed their first Safaricom Chapa Dimba Kakamega County title by defeating Holy Cross Injira Senior School 2-1.

Moses Muruka opened the scoring with a well-placed finish from a corner, and Augustine Khakali doubled Green Buffaloes' lead before halftime. Holy Cross Injira Senior School managed to score once in the second half, but Green Buffaloes held on to secure a historic victory. Green Buffaloes' head coach, Ian Omukuba, expressed his excitement, stating, "We are really excited.

It is the first time we are lifting the Safaricom Chapa Dimba County trophy. Last year, we were knocked out in the round of 16, but this year we came prepared and my boys delivered." The two Kakamega County champions, Lugari Progressive and Green Buffaloes, will represent the county at the Western Regional Finals, scheduled for August 15 and 16 at Masinde Muliro Stadium in Bungoma.
