Lindsay Clancy trial: Did a 'male voice' command her to kill her children? Defense reveals chilling claim

Lindsay Clancy's defense team has provided new details about the events leading up to the killing of her three children in Duxbury, Massachusetts, in January 2023. According to the defense, Clancy was suffering from postpartum mental illness at the time and claimed she heard a male voice instructing her to kill the children and herself.

The voice reportedly said, "this is your last chance. Kill the children so you can kill yourself." Clancy allegedly followed the voice's instructions and strangled Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months, while saying "go to God, baby." She later attempted suicide and survived but now uses a wheelchair.

The defense's central claim revolves around the alleged male voice's directive to Clancy. Her lawyers argue that Clancy was in a severe mental health crisis after her husband, Patrick Clancy, left the family home on January 24, 2023, to get food and medication. The defense asserts that the voice prompted the killings, while prosecutors maintain that Clancy planned and executed the murders intentionally, rationally, and swiftly.

Prosecutors have presented evidence suggesting Clancy was functioning normally shortly before the killings, including testimony from her husband, Patrick Clancy, who said she appeared to be having "one of her best days" before he left. Additionally, Clancy met with her psychiatrist just one day prior to the killings, and the psychiatrist testified that Clancy was more anxious but denied having suicidal or homicidal thoughts.

Forensic psychiatrists who evaluated Clancy after the killings also stated that she appeared clear-headed and organized during their assessments.
