Lagos court remands two as customs probe arms shipment

The Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the remand of two men, Ejiogu Godson and Robert Eze, for 15 days following allegations of smuggling high-calibre firearms and ammunition into Nigeria. The court's decision was made following a request from the Nigeria Customs Service's Legal Services Department. Counsel for the NCS argued that the remand was necessary to enable the Customs Service to complete its investigation and determine appropriate charges against the suspects.

The application was supported by a detailed affidavit from an NCS operative and several documents. The judge ruled in favor of the remand order, citing probable cause and the need for a thorough investigation. The suspects were reportedly apprehended after the Customs Service uncovered 399 rifles during a container examination. The court adjourned the matter until August 25, 2026, for possible arraignment.
