Lagos arrests hoodlums accused of attacking motorists

On Sunday, the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad made arrests targeting suspected hoodlums and miscreants terrorizing motorists along the Lekki–Ajah Expressway. This marked another enforcement operation in a series aimed at criminal elements operating in the corridor. Last March, around 25 individuals accused of harassing motorists in the same area were apprehended. The suspects, dubbed "Omotaku," were caught during an evening patrol conducted by enforcement teams monitoring activities on major corridors.

State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the latest arrests in a post on his X handle, sharing a video of the suspects. He clarified that the operation was focused on individuals involved in extorting, harassing, and intimidating motorists. Wahab stated that the suspects included those who allegedly damaged vehicles when motorists refused to comply with their demands.

Wahab emphasized that the Rapid Response Squad would maintain intelligence-led operations against criminal elements whose activities endanger public safety and disrupt the smooth flow of people and vehicles across the state. The Lekki-Ajah corridor has frequently been plagued by reports of motorists being harassed by suspected touts, leading to recurring enforcement actions by security agencies.
