‘False, fabricated, politically motivated’: Delhi court on sexual harassment case against Brij Bhushan Singh

A Delhi court acquitted former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and Vinod Tomar, former WFI assistant secretary, of sexual harassment allegations due to lack of evidence. The court ruled that the allegations were "false," "fabricated," and part of a "deep conspiracy which seems to be politically motivated."

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Ashwini Panwar stated that the victim's accounts discredited the prosecution's case and demonstrated the allegations were false and part of a politically motivated conspiracy. The court identified issues with the witnesses' conflicting accounts and lack of independent eyewitnesses. It highlighted contradictions between the complainants' statements, inconsistent documentary evidence, and witnesses' statements being made under threat.

The court emphasized that the women who filed allegations had not initially made sexual harassment claims and seemed to have been pressured to support the prosecution's case. The court concluded that the case against the accused was lacking sufficient evidence and was politically motivated.
