KZN's 'Padman': Sivananda Foundation's new initiative aims to improve menstrual health for rural women

The Sivananda World Peace Foundation has unveiled a new initiative in collaboration with Sulabh International, India, with the aim of enhancing menstrual health for women and girls residing in rural communities of KwaZulu-Natal. This partnership is a significant extension of the Foundation's established Outreach and Wellness Programs, which are grounded in the guiding principles of Serve, Love, and Be Good, Do Good.

Prince Ishwar Ramlutchman Mabheka Zulu, the President of the Sivananda World Peace Foundation, emphasized that "menstrual health is a fundamental aspect of human dignity. No young girl or woman should be forced to miss school or suffer silently due to the lack of access to proper sanitary products."

In a joint statement, Abha Kumar, representing Sulabh International, highlighted that "we are deeply honored to collaborate with the Sivananda World Peace Foundation on this transformative initiative. Our shared commitment is to uplift the lives of women and girls in rural KwaZulu-Natal by providing them with dignity, health, and empowerment."

Sulabh International, a renowned organization globally recognized for its contributions in the fields of sanitation and social upliftment, will contribute its technical acumen and established models to facilitate the successful launch of the project. The manufacturing unit, once operational, will primarily target underserved rural regions to ensure that the benefits are felt by those who need it most.

To ensure the effective execution of this project, the Foundation and Sulabh International will engage closely with local leaders, educational institutions, and community health workers. This strategic approach will facilitate seamless distribution of the sanitary pads, comprehensive education on their usage, and the establishment of sustainable long-term impacts.
