Jharkhand assembly gherao: Security stepped up with 750m curbs, barbed-wire barricades

Ranchi has entered a state of heightened security since Monday as students prepare to march to the Jharkhand Vidhan Sabha, alleging irregularities in recruitment exams. Despite the state government claiming acceptance of 98% of their demands, the protest is set to commence. Students have gathered at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium since 9 am and plan to march between 10:30 and 11 am, according to student leader Ravindra Paswan. He emphasized the need for peaceful and constitutional conduct throughout the demonstration.

Prohibitory orders have been issued within a 750-meter radius of the assembly from August 6 to 12, with police deploying barricades and barbed wire along the route to deter demonstrators from approaching restricted areas. The Ranchi SSP Rakesh Ranjan stressed the shared responsibility of maintaining law and order during the march.

Schools in Ranchi will remain closed on Monday to accommodate the expected turnout, while the district administration appeals to students to avoid aggressive protests and illegal activities. BJP leader Amar Bauri accused a party official, Aditya Sahu, of being placed under house arrest prior to the protest. Meanwhile, Jamshedpur also imposed a prohibitory order affecting the city on Sunday night.
