Iran says it is not concerned by new 'Mecca Joint Defence Agreement'

Iran has expressed no concern over the recent "Mecca Joint Defence Agreement" signed by Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan, according to a statement from the country's foreign ministry spokesperson. The agreement, signed in the Muslim holy city of Mecca on August 7, 2026, aims to combat mutual threats and change the perception towards the United States.

Iran's spokesperson, Esmaeil Baghaei, noted that the pact represents a shift in regional security approaches and a greater reliance on each state's own capabilities. Baghaei emphasized that any security plan based on regional realities, which correctly identifies the enemy and the threat, can help strengthen security and prevent instability caused by the Zionist enemy and its allies.

While many analysts believe the alliance between Ankara, Riyadh, and Islamabad is directed against Tehran, it is important to note that Turkey and Pakistan have had relatively cordial relations with Iran in the past. The three countries have largely Sunni populations, but Saudi Arabia has maintained strained relations with Iran.
