Over the past ten years, investments from foreign companies in Pakistan have surpassed $23 billion, outpacing the country's total net foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows of $21 billion during the same timeframe. This information is detailed in the Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OICCI) Members' Contribution to the Economy 2025 report, released on Monday, which underscores the magnitude of investment and economic activity generated by foreign-invested businesses in Pakistan.
Collectively, OICCI members generated Rs. 13.1 trillion in gross revenue in FY2025 and possessed total assets worth Rs. 42 trillion. Their capital expenditure amounted to Rs. 615 billion, and their contributions through government levies reached Rs. 3.2 trillion.
Despite a challenging macroeconomic environment, foreign-invested companies have continued to expand their operations and reinvest in Pakistan. Of the 51 OICCI-listed member companies on the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), profit before tax increased at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 26% in rupees between 2021 and 2025, compared to 35 percent in the prior reporting period. In dollar terms, profit before tax saw a CAGR of 11 percent, while turnover grew by 21 percent in rupees and 6 percent in dollars.
The report reveals that OICCI members have a wide-ranging presence across Pakistan's economy. Oil, Gas, and Energy companies accounted for 36 percent of the total government levies paid by OICCI members. Banking, Insurance, Finance, and Leasing companies represented 75.6 percent of members' total assets and 25 percent of total turnover, while telecommunications companies contributed 33 percent to the total capital expenditure.
Companies in food and consumer products, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, automobiles, engineering, shipping, and airlines also played significant roles.
M. Abdul Aleem, OICCI Secretary General, noted that the $23 billion invested by members over the last decade demonstrated ongoing confidence in Pakistan's long-term economic future. He suggested that improved policy consistency, regulatory predictability, and a more supportive business environment could encourage foreign investors to boost their contributions to economic growth, exports, innovation, and employment.
