Infantino broke trust ‘through deception’ – confederation presidents

Fifa and its president, Gianni Infantino, have been criticized by Uefa, Concacaf, and the Asian Football Confederation for breaking trust through deception, according to an open letter. The letter highlights controversy surrounding the Fifa Forward Enterprise (FFE) proposal, which aimed to create a new company to handle commercial and ticketing rights for all FIFA competitions, including the World Cups, with 21% of the shares sold to a private investment company.

The proposal was scrapped after facing widespread criticism from various confederations, with Uefa threatening a boycott of all FIFA events. The letter asserts that breaking trust by deceiving those who entrusted you with authority is a grave offense. It emphasizes that leadership in football is a duty of service, not a means to hold or demand power.

The confederations pointed out that FIFA's response to the FFE controversy did not adequately address the proposal's inherent flaws, which they view as a profound failure of judgment and a significant breach of trust. Despite FIFA's intention to submit a report to the next council meeting, the confederations argue that this does not sufficiently acknowledge the need for an independent third-party review due to the serious breach of trust.
