I’ll miss Mahama Ayariga’s candid, easygoing nature – Afenyo-Markin

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin expressed his sadness at the loss of Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga’s candid and easygoing personality following Ayariga’s appointment as Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs. Afenyo-Markin described Ayariga as an "affable, easygoing character" whose straightforward approach allowed them to maintain a productive relationship despite their political differences.

Ayariga recently left his Majority Leader role to assume the new Ministerial position, which was then filled by James Agalga. Speaking on Metro TV on August 10, 2026, Afenyo-Markin highlighted Ayariga’s willingness to openly express his opinions and his ability to move past disagreements without holding onto grudges. He particularly appreciated Ayariga’s lack of concealment, stating that his positions were easy to understand because he did not shy away from sharing his feelings.

Afenyo-Markin noted that Ayariga’s straightforwardness made it simple to predict his reactions to issues, as he was not afraid to voice his concerns directly. He recounted that Ayariga would confront disagreements head-on rather than allowing them to fester. The Minority Leader acknowledged that their parliamentary relationship sometimes involved unexpected twists, with both leaders occasionally surprising each other during sessions.

While surprises were not welcomed by politicians, Afenyo-Markin emphasized that their shared party interest ultimately guided their actions. He expressed his hope that Ayariga would thrive in his new position and wished him well in his Ministerial responsibilities.
