HK braces for more hot days with Dolphin fuelling heat

Hong Kong braces for scorching temperatures as Tropical Cyclone Dolphin fuels record heat early this week. Meteorologists warn that some areas could see temperatures of 37 degrees Celsius or higher on Monday and Tuesday. The storm's outer subsiding air is causing the extreme heat, an effect expected to endure through Wednesday and Thursday before diminishing as Dolphin dissipates.

Senior scientist Cheung Ping explained the weather patterns on an RTHK radio show, stating that the heatwave will eventually ease with increasing clouds and potential localized thunderstorms later in the week. The Observatory advises residents to stay hydrated and avoid strenuous outdoor activities, while the government addresses concerns over Hong Kong's heat stress warning system.

Despite the low humidity and favorable wind conditions on Sunday, the city experienced its hottest temperature on record. However, a rights advocate argues that international standards should be adopted for measuring heat stress, highlighting that many days would have required higher alerts under those benchmarks.
