HD Hyundai Wins US Data Center Power Deal

HD Hyundai Heavy Industries has clinched a significant contract for a 1,000 megawatt (MW) power generation facility to support a large data center owned by a prominent U.S. technology firm. The deal, valued at 956 billion won ($735.38 million), represents the company's most substantial power generation engine supply agreement to date.

The contract was recently signed with Corban Energy Group, a U.S. energy infrastructure development company. Corban Energy Group is known for providing gas and power solutions for various infrastructure projects, including data centers and Department of War (DoW) initiatives. The power generation equipment supplied under this contract will serve as the primary power source for a data center operated by a leading U.S. tech company.

The 9.6 MW-class HiMSEN engine is a high-capacity medium-speed engine renowned for its exceptional power generation efficiency. Its high-output performance allows it to operate continuously for 24 hours, providing a stable power supply that is crucial in the data center industry. This engine's superior efficiency sets it apart in the market, where uninterrupted power remains a top priority.

HD Hyundai Heavy Industries is rapidly expanding its presence in the U.S. market, having recently signed a supply contract worth 627.1 billion won ($482.38 million) with AEG in April. The demand for data center power generation equipment in the U.S. is surging due to the rapid growth of artificial intelligence (AI) services and increased investments in cloud infrastructure.

According to the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) of the United States, the proportion of data centers in total U.S. power consumption is projected to expand by up to three times or more by 2030. As power demand intensifies, the need for high-efficiency power generation equipment is growing rapidly. HD Hyundai is strategically focusing its capabilities to cater to this burgeoning market, with various subsidiaries concentrating on developing core technologies for floating data centers, expanding power distribution equipment supply, and enhancing engine maintenance and repair services.

Through this contract, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries aims to maintain a close cooperative relationship with Corban Energy Group for future projects, further solidifying their positions in the vertically integrated business structure, from engine manufacturing to post-management.
