HC junks Punjab DIG’s second bail plea, says prima facie case of bribe demand

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has rejected a second bail plea filed by suspended Deputy Inspector General Harcharan Singh Bhullar in a corruption case registered by the CBI. The court ruled that there is a prima facie case of bribe demand based on the allegations in the FIR and evidence collected during the investigation. The High Court dismissed Bhullar's argument that no recovery had been made from him, noting that the co-accused is alleged to have accepted a Rs 5 lakh gratification on his behalf.

The court also expressed concern that Bhullar may attempt to influence witnesses or obstruct the course of proceedings if released on bail. This is the second time the High Court has denied Bhullar's bail plea, with the first rejection occurring on February 17, 2026.
