From 7 am to 7 pm: How the march to Jharkhand Assembly unfolded

Between 7 am and 7 pm on Monday, a march to Jharkhand's Vidhan Sabha in Ranchi unfolded amid intense protests over alleged irregularities in government exams. The demonstrators, mostly students and job aspirants, gathered at the old Vidhan Sabha to march towards the new one, where the monsoon session was ongoing. With over 10,000 people in attendance, the protesters carried placards, the Tricolour, and posters of various notable figures.

As they moved, the protesters encountered police barricades, facing a water cannon, lathi-charge, and tear gas. Despite these confrontations, the crowd remained persistent, demanding a CBI probe into the irregularities and the cancellation of the JSSC CGL examination. The situation became more intense as protesters pushed through the barricades, leading to injuries among some students. The police, however, claimed they were forced to use force due to provocative actions by some protesters.

After the lathi-charge, the protesters initially dispersed but later regrouped near the third barricade, intensifying the confrontation. Two rounds of tear gas were fired, prompting the crowd to back away. Some protesters took a different route, moving towards the Vidhan Sabha for nearly a kilometre. Eventually, they reached the assembly and began gathering there, with some remaining despite the confrontations and rain.

By evening, several students continued their protest near the assembly, while others had left to catch trains back to their districts.
