Gunman fires at Thai govt office as country reels from school shooting

BANGKOK: A gunman was apprehended after attempting to shoot at a local government office on the outskirts of Thailand's capital on Monday, officials announced, following a school shooting that has reignited discussions on gun control. The provincial police commander, Major General Dejrapee Kongdee, disclosed that the alleged shooter, a former lawmaker, had targeted a senior provincial official and his driver, resulting in two injuries, with both being hospitalized.

Nine fatalities and over twenty injuries occurred after a 14-year-old boy allegedly shot his grandparents and launched a killing spree at Debsirin Nonthaburi School on Friday, before taking his own life. This incident marks Thailand's deadliest mass shooting in nearly four years. As the country returned to normalcy, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul reiterated his commitment to tightening gun control measures in light of the traumatic events.
