Gunman fires at Thai govt office as country reels from school shooting

BANGKOK - A gunman was apprehended after targeting a local government office near Bangkok, Thailand, just weeks after a tragic school shooting left nine dead and over two dozen wounded, the deadliest mass shooting in the country in nearly four years. The suspect, a former lawmaker, opened fire on a senior provincial official and his driver, according to provincial police commander Major General Dejrapee Kongdee.

Nine individuals lost their lives and more than twenty others sustained injuries during the school attack on Friday, where a 14-year-old boy allegedly targeted his grandparents before embarking on a shooting spree at Debsirin Nonthaburi School. The attacker ultimately took his own life amidst heightened security measures as Thai students returned to school on Monday, some passing through metal detectors and additional security checks.

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul reiterated his commitment to implementing stricter gun control measures following the harrowing school shooting, underscoring the urgency of addressing the country's gun control concerns in light of the recent events.
