Guinea-Bissau junta leader makes first foreign trip to Chad

Guinea-Bissau's junta leader General Horta N'Tam embarked on his first foreign trip, traveling to Chad on Monday. This visit, which took place during his eight months in power, is primarily aimed at bolstering legitimacy as Bissau prepares to hold elections on December 6th. The trip comes following a coup in November that ousted President Umaro Sissoco Embalo.

N'Tam, a close associate of the ousted president, was appointed as the transitional leader by the junta. The visit to Chad, which involves attending military parades for the country's 66th independence anniversary, has been announced by the Chadian presidency. However, the details of N'Tam's itinerary remain undisclosed. The move is seen as an attempt to re-establish connections amid diplomatic isolation, following international condemnation of the coup and suspensions by the African Union and ECOWAS.
