GFA in talks with other coaches for Black Stars job – Nana Oduro Sarfo

Nana Oduro Sarfo, an Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has disclosed that the association is still in discussions with alternative coaches for the vacant Black Stars coaching position. Carlos Queiroz, the current Portuguese coach, has led Ghana to the knockout stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

However, his future remains uncertain, despite his successful performance at the World Cup. Queiroz was appointed in April on a short-term contract following the departure of Otto Addo, with his primary responsibility being to lead the Black Stars during the World Cup tournament. While there were expectations that Queiroz would be offered a long-term contract following Ghana's performance at the World Cup, negotiations have reportedly hit a snag due to his demands.

Oduro Sarfo revealed to Kumasi-based Ezra Radio that the GFA is currently exploring other options as it continues its search for the next head coach of the senior national team. The Black Stars are scheduled to return to competitive action in September when they commence their qualification campaign for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The team will be drawn into Group C, which includes West African neighbors Côte d'Ivoire, The Gambia, and Somalia. As the four-time African champions, Ghana aims to secure a spot in the continental showpiece following their absence from the 2025 AFCON tournament in Morocco.
