GETFund launches nationwide furniture appeal to support schools facing shortages

The Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) has initiated a nationwide campaign to collect classroom furniture for schools grappling with shortages across Ghana. Named the Collective Furniture Appeal, this effort is coordinated through GETFund's Education Financing and Partnership Initiative (EFPI) and aims to unite businesses, development partners, alumni groups, religious organizations, civil society entities, philanthropists, and individuals to assist schools in need.

The appeal responds to numerous pleas from schools nationwide for essential furniture to enhance teaching and learning conditions.

GETFund highlights the ongoing need for furniture, despite substantial government investments in educational infrastructure, as some pupils are still learning in uncomfortable conditions, such as sharing desks. The appeal calls for a collective national effort to complement these government initiatives and address the furniture deficit.

GETFund invites corporate Ghana, non-governmental organizations, development partners, traditional authorities, religious organizations, community groups, alumni associations, and the general public to donate new or gently used furniture. This initiative aligns with President John Mahama's vision for transforming Ghana's education sector through strategic partnerships, innovative financing, and shared responsibility.

It also complements the EFPI programme, which seeks to broaden private-sector and philanthropic involvement in educational development.

The initiative aims to support schools in improving their learning environments, ultimately contributing to better educational outcomes. GETFund urges the public to support this campaign, emphasizing that adequate classroom furniture is crucial for creating a dignified space for teaching and learning. "Together, let us support the President’s vision for education by furnishing our classrooms, empowering our teachers, inspiring our learners, and ensuring that no child is left behind," GETFund states.
