Five men remanded another week over murder of Batu Pahat businessman found in fishing net

Batu Pahat, August 10 — Five suspects linked to the murder of a businessman have been granted an additional week of detention, a Magistrate's Court in Batu Pahat announced on August 10. Magistrate Aimi Nawwar Mohamad Othman extended the remand for all five individuals aged between 26 and 40 until Monday. The suspects were initially placed in police custody and remanded for seven days under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which pertains to murder.

Their current remand is to aid investigators probing the case. On August 3, the victim's body was discovered in Sungai Tanjung Sembrong in Parit Raja, where it had floated after being tied up and placed in a fishing net with five rocks. The businessman, aged 39, hailed from Mutiara Rini in Iskandar Puteri and had been missing since July 29.

His identity was confirmed by his next of kin through his clothing and personal belongings. Among the five men arrested, two had prior convictions for crime and narcotics offenses.
