Five men remanded another week over murder of Batu Pahat businessman found in fishing net

Batu Pahat, Aug 10 — Five men, under investigation for the murder of a businessman in Batu Pahat, have been granted another week of remand by Magistrate Aimi Nawwar Mohamad Othman. The suspects, aged between 26 and 40, appeared in Magistrate’s Court today, with their remand extended until Monday. The investigation focuses on the murder of a 39-year-old businessman whose body was discovered floating in Sungai Tanjung Sembrong, Parit Raja, last week.

The five suspects were previously in police custody and were initially remanded for seven days under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. Their remand extension was granted to aid investigators. The businessman's body was discovered along the river on August 3, tied up and bound in a fishing net. Initial findings suggest he was killed by strangulation with a rope around his neck, with both hands subsequently taped.

Police believe the victim's body was further secured in a fishing net with five rocks before being thrown into the river, likely to submerge his remains. The victim, a businessman from Mutiara Rini in Iskandar Puteri, had been missing since July 29 and was identified by next of kin based on his clothing and personal belongings. Among the five men arrested, two have prior criminal records related to crime and narcotics.
