Fenway Sports Group adds women's WTGL team to golf roster

Fenway Sports Group (FSG) has expanded its portfolio by acquiring Boston Common Golf's Women's Tour Golf League (WTGL) team. This strategic move marks FSG's first ownership stake in a women's professional golf team. The partnership between FSG and WTGL, which originated in 2023 through a joint venture with the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA), aims to bolster women's golf's sponsorship and marketing opportunities.

WTGL, set to launch this fall at SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, is scheduled to feature a fast-paced team match-play format showcasing some of the world's top LPGA players. Notable names like Charley Hull, Lydia Ko, Jeeno Thitikul, Lexi Thompson, and Michelle Wie West have already committed to participate in the inaugural season. Although world No. 1 Nelly Korda is not expected to compete, the roster currently includes 14 LPGA stars, collectively owning 95 LPGA Tour victories.

FSG's investment in WTGL is seen as a natural progression in its strategy to grow and evolve the sports landscape. The acquisition adds another experienced ownership group to WTGL's roster, further solidifying its position in the team-golf landscape. FSG's CEO, Linda Henry, expressed confidence in the future of women's golf and the potential of this new venture.
