Ewon Benedick remains as Upko president for 2026-2029 term

Ewon Benedick will continue to serve as the president of the United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (Upko) for the 2026-2029 term, while Donald Peter Mojuntin retains his position as the party's deputy president, according to Bernama's report. The two leadership roles were uncontested during the party election held at the 17th Upko triennial delegates conference in Penampang today.

Additionally, five vice-presidents were also elected unopposed, including Jairaiaz Joseph, Wong Thien Fook, Pangiran Lalung, Basari Sarikun and Laurentius Nayan Ambu.

At the conference's winding-up speech, Ewon expressed respect for the democratic process and acknowledged the decision made by the delegates. He emphasized that the new leadership is responsible for conveying the party's resolutions to the government leadership, specifically to Sabah Chief Minister Hajiji Noor, who is also the chairman of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS).

Several Upko wings experienced changes in their leadership during the elections. Carlye Lajimin was elected as the new Upko Youth chief, replacing Felix Joseph Saang, while Newbaxter Tibin became the deputy chief. Mohina Sidom maintained her position as the Upko women's chief, and Lomiti Jahan was elected as the deputy chief. The Upko Young Generation movement also received new leadership, with Emmanuel Atin becoming the chief, succeeding Seheral Linus, and Alison Chan was chosen as the deputy chief, taking over from Russell Flavian.
