European Championships: Irish schedule & results on Day 2

On the second day of the European Athletics Championships, Irish athletes continue to showcase their prowess. John Shortt secured second place in the semi-final and is set to compete in the final at 5:40 pm on Wednesday. Mona McSharry claimed first place in the semi-final and will also qualify for the final on Wednesday at 5:58 pm.

Ellie McCartney finished eighth in the semi-final but did not advance to the final. Ellen Walshe, who placed first in Heat 2 and 26th overall, failed to make it to the semi-finals. Rosalie Phelan, who was 10th in Heat 3 and 44th overall, also did not qualify for the semi-finals.

Alana Burns-Atkin, who placed eighth in Heat 2 and 49th overall, was another Irish athlete who missed out on the semi-finals. Evan Bailey, placed second in Heat 6 and 32nd overall, also failed to make it to the semi-finals. Matthew Hamilton, who was ninth in Heat 4 and 74th overall, was not selected for the semi-finals.

Mona McSharry had a remarkable performance in the heats, finishing second in Heat 5 and overall second, which secured her a spot in the semi-finals. Ellie McCartney, who was eighth in Heat 5 and 18th overall, also secured her place in the semi-finals. John Shortt, who placed fourth in Heat 4 and 9th overall, qualified for the semi-finals as well.

The Irish team of Lottie Cullen, Darragh Greene, Jack Cassin, and Grace Davison finished sixth in Heat 3 and 11th overall, but did not qualify for the final. Daniel Wiffen, who placed third in Heat 4 and 3rd overall, qualified for the final on Wednesday. Nathan Wiffen, who was ninth in Heat 4 and 15th overall, did not make it to the final. Liam Custer, who finished fifth in Heat 2 and 15th overall, also failed to qualify for the final.
